Never before have I seen a time when on a weekly basis I am hearing reports of tragedy after tragedy.  Flooding in Houston, devastating hurricanes, fires raging out of control, and back to back earthquakes.

As I heard about all of these tragedies I heard Him say with urgency,

This is why you’re alive right now!

If you are a child of God you need to understand God chose you for such a time as this. Our births were no accident.  We were allowed, chosen even, to live in this time of despair.

This time of darkness.

The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.  Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. 3 And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

So I answered, “O Lord God, You know.”

Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!  Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.  I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”’”

So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone.  Indeed, as I looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them.

Also He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”’”  So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.  Ez 37:1-10

Here we see Ezekiel was put in a situation like you and I.  In the midst of death, fallen dreams, tragedy, failure, and disappointments God God asks him what he sees.  Does he see the death that covers the valley or does he see the potential for life?

God wants to know what you and I see.  He wants to know if we are going to throw up our hands and give up or respond in faith.

Where there is no vision, the people perish…  Proverbs 29:18

God wants you and I to have vision.  He wants us to see that He is our healer and our deliverer.  He wants us to not just know but to believe that he who the Son makes free is free!

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Phil 4:8

God wants us to fix our thought life.  Listen are you always negative.  Do the people around you constantly speak death?  You have to guard your intake and live the life God wants you to live.

Just because you gave your life to Christ doesn’t mean bad things are never going to happen to you.  Now that you are saved you need to know you have an enemy who has come to steal, kill, and destroy.

Many people pray for the hand of God upon their lives, Is this really what you want?

The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones Ez 37:1

Ezekiel didn’t say the hand of God was upon him and set him down in the midst of a beautiful tropical paradise.  No, God set him right in the midst of an impossible situation where there appeared to be nothing but despair.

Where are you right now? Does there appear to be nothing but hopelessness around you?  Could it be God put you there on purpose because He wants to use you to affect a change?

When the call of God came for my wife and I to pastor a church we believed the hand of God was upon us.  During that time we lost a child, our car was stolen and we had to pastor 18 months asking for rides to get to church.  During those early years my wife bled almost daily and nearly died from blood loss.  In the midst of all that we still had to praise and preach Jesus because we knew  He was the answer.

Are you believing something good will happen?  It’s easy to have faith for the future, but what about right now?  God wants to do something in your life and family right now. He wants to set you free from addictions right now.  He wants to heal your body right now.  He wants to save your loved one right now.  It’s not a sermon, a song, or a church program that has the power to deliver you it’s God who does that.  Are you contending for His power in your life?

And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” Ez 37:3

God is not asking this question because He didn’t know the answer.  God could have raised up those bones.  He asked the question because He wanted to know what Ezekiel thought.

Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones..”  Ez 7:4

God wanted Ezekiel to speak life and let the power of God to move through him.  No matter what you see prophesy life.  Walk in the power of God for your situation.

Speaking life does not come easy.  Here God is asking you can your situation live? Can your church exist.  Churches are closing at a record pace.  We need small churches and megachurches.  Every church is needed to do it’s part.  We need churches to live!

The real question is will man get involved with what God is doing?  God has a plan.  And He saved you to involve you in that plan.

For with God nothing shall be impossible.  Luke 1:37

God wants to include you and me in the miraculous.  But what does it mean to prophesy?  It literally means to speak the Word of God.  To say what God says.

Can you have such a vision that you can’t help but speak it out?  The pharisees saw dogs but Jesus saw sheep.  What you see is what you get.  Is your spouse unsaved?  Do you see a hopeless situation or do you see him saved and serving God with you in church?

What do you see when your church has a need.  Do you see an opportunity to serve God or a burden.  David said he would rather be a door keeper in the house of God than be anywhere else.  Do you still see serving as an honor like you did when you were first saved?

No one loves me.  I’m old.  I’m fat.  I’m stupid.  I’ll always be this way.  I’m sick.  God has passed me up.  I’m broke.  My husband is a loser.  My life is worthless….

Is this really what you want?  The Word of God tells us we will have whatever we say.

Now I am not talking about speaking out a bunch of foolish stuff that is not God’s will for you.  Do you know God’s will for your life?  Are you in alignment with Him?  God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones.  If you don’t know what God’s will is get in prayer and find it out.

God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the breath.  It’s God’s breath but he had Ezekiel use his breath.  God does nothing without you.  God is saying,

You do it!

Don’t go by what you see.  Ezekiel was one man and by his obedience and entire army came to life. Rise up prophet of God.  Don’t turn your back on those dry bones.  Stay where God put you and speak Life!

Pray this with me.

Oh Lord revive us your people!  Give us a people who who hear the Spirit of the Lord and prophesy life into their homes and into this nation.  Lord I believe a great army is coming.  An army that will speak what You speak and live for you,  not someday, but now!  We declare over your church and over this nation…LIVE!  In the name of Jesus, amen.
